SAS Doctors steering group in the Royal College of Physicians London

Staff and Associate Specialist (SAS) Doctors provide a key role in healthcare provision, and the RCP SAS Steering Group (SAS SG) provides the primary interface between the RCP and its SAS doctors. The group aims to serve the needs of SAS doctors (including associate specialists, staff grade and specialty doctors) who are fellows and members and associate members of the RCP.
The group focuses on topics central to the work of SAS doctors and issues include: education, research and training, CPD and revalidation, non-clinical employment issues and CESR (Article 14). The committee also conducts surveys and feeds into workforce issues and relevant consultations.  The SAS SG meets twice a year.
The chair of the group sits on RCP Council, so is able to convey ideas and concerns to RCP officers. The SAS SG has been represented on the Future Hospital Commission and the chair of the group shares issues with SAS doctors from other Royal Colleges via the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges SAS doctors committee (ASASC). The ASASC oversees the organisation of regular conferences for SAS doctors: the last one was on 21 February, 2014.
The SAS SG communicates with, and is supported by, a network of SAS doctors who contribute their views to any issues and consultations that arise. If you are a subscribing RCP SAS member and would like to join this network, please contact the SAS SG committee manager: (geraldine.welham@rcplondon.ac.uk).

Revalidation

The RCP offers its members and fellows support and information to assist them with revalidation, including specific guidance for SAS doctors
